Kuwait Energy CEO and Deputy Chairman Sara Akbar first and only woman in a leadership position in energy awarded by Women in Leadership
Akbar receives Leader in Energy award

Kuwait, 8 November 2009: Sara Akbar Kuwait Energy CEO and Deputy Chairman,recieved "the leader in energy" award at this year's "women in leadership"  awards and forum held in Dubai last week .The award recognized sara akbar for her role as the first and only woman in leasdership position in the oil and gas industry in the middle east
 
in 2005 sara akbar joined kuwait energy as the CEO and deputy chairman.She is today the only woman CEO and board memeber of an oil and gas comnay in the middleeast .kuwait energy is teh fastest growing oil and gas exploration  and production compnay in the middle east with assets in nine countries,namely in egypt,yemen,Oman, Indonesia, Pakistan, Cambodia, Latvia, Ukraine and Russia.
 
Sara Akbar has over 25 years experience in upstream oil and gas operations. She started her career in Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) and then Kuwait Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC). KOC and KUFPEC are both subsidiaries of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). During her career, Sara Akbar worked on major oil exploration and production fields and was the only woman to lead one of the teams that extinguished oil fires of Kuwait after the Iraqi 1990 invasion of Kuwait. 
 
Sara Akbar said: "Women play an equal role in an organization but often face obstacles when reaching leading roles within it. Women establish a balance between their personal and professional lives and work hard at developing their skills and network of contacts to earn high level positions, this is why at kuwait energy we believe that offering fair chances for women is indispensable to our success. 'Women in Leadership' recognizes these women in the Middle East and the roles they have played in leading their organization towards success. I am proud to receive today the 'Leader in Energy' award."

The three-day event at Burj Al Arab was organized by Dubai Business Women Council and Naseba, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The Forum provides women with a platform to meet influential women leaders and inspire them to discover and further develop their potential. It aims to help Arab women expand their role in the business world and to motivate women to be productive members of both society and the economy. The WIL Awards recognizes women who have led their organization within their industries.
